This video was taken by Keith Hadsall and Traci Hermes on March 13 on River Beach Drive in Rome, IL. They said, :These same 2 eagles have been in this tree every day for the past week. We think they are a breeding couple, and the eagle that is higher up in the tree is most likely the female. female bald eagles are generally older, and larger, than the males."
All birds go through a post-breeding season molt (where they replace old worn feathers with new ones), but some cardinals and blue jays tend to take it to the extreme. So far, I’ve received two pictures of “bald cardinals” in the past week or so. STORY & COMMENTS
