Oh deer and other thoughts

June 25, 2008 at 04:09 PM

You may have noticed posts have been scarce here on Scattershooting for much of June. First came vacation. Then came our disappearing act here at PSO. Well, for those who were hoping I was gone for good, you’re out of luck.

Actually, I’m back and energized for some new PSO-related changes.

1. More deer stories and pictures will be coming soon. For a few days during vacation I pondered going to an almost-all-deer-format for PSO. But I like fishing, duck hunting, bird hunting and wacky blogging too much to limit the site like that. We’ve got a good mix, I think. We’ve got good bloggers like Chris Young, Jonn Graham and Kevin Chapman. We’ve got a wide variety of information about outdoors stuff in Illinois. So instead of scrapping the model, we’re just going to tweak it. We’re merely going to add more regular deer updates to the normal PSO mix. Evidence of that should be visible starting after the July 4 holiday. Unless we disappear again.

2. More video. The kind folks at work are actually going to provide me with a video camera later this week. Guess I’d better make it worth their while, huh.

3. More pictures of turtles. Just kidding about that. But we do have an intriguing dialogue ongoing with Nate “The Pond Guy” Herman about an alleged 30-pound snapping turtle that he has knowledge about. Nate says the turtle in question weighs 30. And it looks big in his pictures. But most turtle experts (including Chef Todd, whose only expertise in the matter is eating lots of turtle) remain dubious that it weighs that much. The critter is to be weighed soon to answer the raging debate.

4. Fun. Frankly, I wasn’t having much fun with this Web site in May. Not sure why. But it’s like I just woke up from a bad dream or something. Because I’m fired up again. We’ve got our one-year anniversary in mid-August. By then I promise this sucker will be firing on all cylinders.
