Anderson Lake walk-in not closed
Don’t believe the hype.
Contrary to some reports, the West Point walk-in hunting area at Anderson Lake has not been officially closed for the duck season.
But whether or not the site will open in time for Saturday’s Central Zone season opener remains to be scene according to site staffer Scott Schlueter. Site staff has been attempting to remove silt from the road leading back to the launch area to reach West Point. Flooding this fall dumped a huge amount of mud on the road.
“The river carried more silt than I’ve ever seen,” Schlueter said. “We’re doing everything we can to open it. But I can’t guarantee it will be open by opening day.”
Check back later for an update closer to the end of this week.
In other waterfowling news, Christine Sisson at Rice Lake reported “birds everywhere” Monday in Big Lake and Goose Lake while checking duck blinds.
And youth hunters fared better than expected near Peoria. At Rice Lake 76 youths shot 103 ducks and four geese, while 38 youngsters shot 29 ducks and nine geese at Banner Marsh. Things were not as rosy at Sanganois where 58 kids shot 25 ducks and one Canada goose.
