Whooping crane sightseeing area set

Weather has not been cooperating for this year’s ultralight-assisted migration of whooping cranes. The folks at Operation Migration have to be going nuts with all the delays. After reaching Illinois on Monday, the birds were grounded through Friday in Winnebago County — with just 129 of 1,285 miles completed.

One bit of news is that a viewing area has been set to see the birds in flight as they leave LaSalle County, possibly as early as today. Sightseers are advised to gather at East Si Johnson Avenue and East Pleasant Street in Sheridan. Click here to see a map to the location.

The whoopers will fly from LaSalle to Livingston County.
