Volunteers needed for raptor watch
Volunteers are needed to conduct the fifth Annual Illinois Winter Raptor Survey from December 2008 to March 2009.
This survey is being done to further understand raptor populations and behavior during the winter months.
What we are looking for is individuals, preferably groups of individuals (2-4), to drive a self designated route or routes of 20-50 miles one time per month for the months of December, January, February and March and record raptor sightings. Observations will be recorded from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.PM. The route(s) and day of the month would be of your choice entirely. Habitat and behavior will also be recorded in the survey notes. All areas of the state are encouraged to participate.
Paul Sweet, who has extensive experience in ornithological survey projects, will be doing all of the statistical analysis of our findings.
Please consider this activity as part of your winter birding experience. What better way to enjoy winter than with friends searching for raptors!
