BENTON, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in southern Illinois say two people are now dead after two boats collided on Rend Lake.
Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones says searchers found one victim’s body Wednesday, a day after the accident. That man’s name wasn’t immediately released, pending the notification of his relatives.
Jones says another victim, a woman, has died at a St. Louis hospital.
The sheriff says three people were on one boat and two were aboard the other when the vessels collided.
Two of the victims were flown to hospitals in St. Louis. Another person suffered lesser injuries.
It isn’t yet clear how the crash happened or whether the victims were wearing life jackets.
