The diving ducks have been around for a few days now, but on Tuesday the rafts on Lake Springfield seemed larger.

At around noon, mixed flocks of canvasbacks, ring-necked ducks and others joined the floating community on the lake.

H. David Bohlen, who keeps tabs on Sangamon County birds as part of his work at the Illinois State Museum, says divers included ruddy ducks, redheads and scaup.
Snow geese, that have taken advantage of the relative safety of Lake Springfield in recent years, have made only a brief appearance so far.
