Plane strikes deer on departure
WHEELING, Ill. (AP) - Authorities in suburban Chicago say a small airplane apparently struck a deer while taking off from an airport, forcing it to make an emergency landing.
Officials say there were no injuries to the six people aboard when the twin-engine Piper Seneca aircraft landed with damaged landing gear Sunday at the Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling.
Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory says the agency’s still investigating. And she says authorities are trying to confirm where the plane took off.
Some initial reports said it departed from Campbell Airport in Grayslake.
Wheeling Fire Battalion Chief Dave Palmeri says the aircraft didn’t have its landing gear on its left side and the pilot reported landing gear problems after striking a deer.

Reminds me of the Bill Engvall joke.
I was passing by the airport just the other day. I commented to a friend about the number of deer in the forest preserve directly across the road from that very airport. There are ALOT of deer in Crook county…..so kill off the deer numbers elsewhere in the state….Il. logic for ya…
Quick increase NR tags, increase resident fees, and open gun season August 15th and run it continually to April 1st to rectify this matter.
I guess we now know that the deer weren’t hiding in the corn. They are all hanging out at the airports.
DNR announces new committee DAAC (Deer Airplane Accident committee) it will be headed by the Farm Bureau. When asked why the committee will be under the control of the IFB a DNR spokesperson said “they already make all decisions for us anyway so we’re just eliminating the money exchange. Did I say eliminating money exchange? We’re still getting paid but now we don’t have to act like we know what we are doing.”
It’s the airplanes fault…didn’t have deer whistles on the wings….or these could be “terrorist” deer. I feel another million dollar study coming on.
Metallicat85 - and add to your comment. The Deer Task Farce will recommend that the number of tags issued per county will depend on the number DAAC’s per county . . .
i mean its a shame that every deer related article is ruined by you same people with the same complaints about the same crap. i can understand if its a dnr related article and calls for a response but no matter what you guys post the same crap and bash dnr even when it isnt called for. i mean for heavens sake if jeff lampe posted a review for the movie bambie on here, i bet half of you would take it as a reason to complain about the deer sex ratio and how booo on dnr even so it has as much to dnr as most of you have to do with intelligence
Well Mr. buckraiser I have been trying to get people together and try to make a difference in this state and only a few people have responded to my thread on here which is in the archery forum under “Concerned Hunters of Illinois.” I have got maybe two responses from this site and if you were one that is great. Although you need to realize we are making light of the situation, of course we are glad no one got hurt, so try to see the humor in the situation. While I don’t want to start an argument on this forum, don’t tell people that they don’t want to take action on many of the washed out issues involving the IDNR. We are all in this fight together so don’t try to divide us but rather unite with us and enjoy some of the banter along the way.
P.S I also have a website if you are interested.

Airlines are planning a “protect the passenger” fee to cover deer/goose collisions, but are waiting until Pat Q. passes the 33% state tax increase to see if there is any money left in our pockets.
Well, at least we now have definitive evidence that the whitetail population is healthy. From 2004-2009 there were n zero DPA’s (Deer-Plane accidents). In 2010, there was one (so far!). That’s an increase of . . . an infinite percent. Obviously, we now have an infinite number of deer.
To heck with all this stuff, I just wanna know what happened to the deer? Another case of shoddy journalism, nothing about the victim in the story.
