“Patriot Day” fishing tournament planned for Horseshoe Lake Sept. 11

GRANITE CITY — Horseshoe Lake State Park will be host Sunday to the 8th annual Patriot Day Fishing Tournament.
It will be at the park’s C.A.R.P. pond. It is hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Metro East Patriots Day Committee.
Children aged 4-15 will begin registration at 10 a.m. The tourney begins at 11 a.m. and trophies and door prizes will be awarded at noon.
Visitors may visit the Natural Resources’ Urban Fishing Trailer, the virtual fishing simulator and the felt fish pond.
The Metro East Patriots Day Committee urges residents to fly flags at half-staff to honor those who have died since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
A ceremony at the pond to honor those killed in the attacks will be at 10:45 a.m.
