New section of Lake Michigan shoreline opens
FORT SHERIDAN (AP) — A section of Lake Michigan shoreline about 25 miles north of Chicago is to be opened to the public.
The Openlands Lakeshore Preserve plans to open the shore and ravine habitat at a Sunday ribbon-cutting ceremony. The conservation group says the stretch of land includes bluffs and the Bartlett Ravine, which contains plant life.
The group said along with the opening, it will launch a curriculum to help children learn about the area and will offer an interpretive plan for visitors to take self-guided tours. The group says it raised $9.2 million of the $12 million necessary for the total project.
