Motorcyclist killed after collision with deer

A 56-year-old Mechanicsburg man who struck a deer while riding his motorcycle on Mechanicsburg Road Monday night died at St. John’s Hospital today.
The man’s name was not immediately released.
According to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, the man was riding a 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the 12000 block of Mechanicsburg Road about 11:30 p.m. Monday, when a deer ran out in front of his bike. Authorities said alcohol was not a factor, and the impact killed the deer.
Mechanicsburg Road is east of Springfield off Interstate 72.
It was not immediately clear if the man was wearing a helmet. He was taken by ambulance before police arrived to St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
