Migration in full swing
Geese of all sorts have been migrating through central Illinois in huge numbers this week.
Along with the migrants, huge flocks of snow geese are lingering around Ameren Cilco’s Duck Creek cooling lake. “I’ve never seen anything like it in this area,” Adam Jaegle said. “The snows are covered up on Cilco, and we’ve had specklellies going north all week.”
Conservation order snow goose season runs until March 31. Unplugged shotguns and electronic calls are legal. Hunting is allowed from one-half hour before sunset to one-half hour after sunset and there is no bag limit on snow geese.
Large flocks of sandhill cranes have been reported flying over northeast Illinois in the past two days.
