VINTON, Iowa (AP) - A 34-year-old Iowa man shot himself in the leg while deer hunting in Marion County.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources spokesman Kevin Baskins says Daniel Higdon was re-holstering a handgun Saturday when the pistol discharged and hit him in the lower leg.
The Vinton man was taken by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Baskins says the bullet passed through Higdon’s calf and the injuries were not life threatening.

Maybe not life threatening, but I’ll bet it hurt like hell! A good reason to always leave one chamber empty on a revolver, and leave the chamber empty on an autoloader. Just good practice anytime you’re in the field.
