Man injured in Starved Rock fall
UTICA, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says a DuPage County man survived a 60-foot fall at Starved Rock State Park with relatively minor injuries.
Authorities say 22-year-old Michael Degl’Innocenti (del-in-oh-SAHNT’-ee) of Lisle suffered a broken arm and a sprained ankle in the fall Sunday afternoon. He was being treated Tuesday afternoon at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Department of Natural Resources spokesman Chris McCloud says Degl’Innocenti was hiking with three other people when he and 20-year-old Caleb James Peterson of Seymour, Wis., decided to leave the trail by a few feet. McCloud says Degl’Innocenti apparently slipped on some wet moss and fell.
Peterson and Degl’Innocenti were both cited for hiking off the trail, and Peterson was cited for underage drinking.
