Hunter dies after falling into Indiana lake
COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a hunter died after he and two others fell from their canoe into a northeastern Indiana lake and swam ashore.
State Conservation Officers say the men were hunting waterfowl in Goose Lake near Columbia City when they fell into the water about 40 yards off shore Sunday evening.
As they reached the banks, 41-year-old Jay E. Bohde of Columbia City began having trouble swimming and became unconscious.
Bohde was taken to Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
An autopsy was planned to determine the cause of his death. The temperature in the area was about 50 degrees when the men fell in, but had dropped to the lower 30s early Sunday.
