Hope for Lake DePue
While work is moving ahead on dredging and island construction in Peoria Lake, problems with silt still abound.
Among the most glaring example is Lake DePue, where APBA boat racers will have barely enough water to race this weekend. Complicating silt issues at Lake DePue is contamination from a former New Jersey Zinc Superfund site.
After years of inaction, there may be hope on the horizon for the nearly 1,000-acre site and for the lake. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has scheduled meetings Aug. 12 at the DePue VFW hall to discuss plans.

Unfortunately, officials say a final decision on what to do won’t be registered until spring or summer of 2012.
