Hiker survives tumble from cliff
MAKANDA, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a teenager survived a weekend fall of more than 75 feet from a cliff while hiking in a southern Illinois state park.
Authorities haven’t released the name of the Pinckneyville victim of the Saturday night fall in Giant City State Park near Makanda.
Authorities say the teenager was hiking with friends when he apparently lost his balance and fell from a cliff.
He apparently was conscious and talking while being taken to a southeastern Missouri hospital for treatment of cuts and several broken bones. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday she had no immediate update on the teen’s condition.
Illinois state conservation police are investigating the fall.
