Gobblers quiet off the roost
April 15, 2010 at 05:19 PM
Despite unseasonably warm weather, many North Zone turkey hunters report toms are staying very quiet after leaving the roost each morning.
The other general comment is that undergrowth is unusually lush for this early in the spring, which could create problems for hunters in the remaining four seasons.

When gobblers go quiet soon as they fly down, patience is needed. They already have hens with them and are more than likely breeding. This can last for a couple of hours. A good tactic if they are not responding, is to quietly slip out and come back mid to late morning, when the hens have left him and he finds himself all alone.
Sometime,a few soft calls are all that’s needed. If not,get aggresive with cuts and hard yelps and fire him up.
