Furry cyclists raise money for homeless
ROCKFORD — A cycling team wants you to cover your bike with fur and endure the cold weather for 20 miles to help the homeless.
The second annual Tour de Frost starts at noon Saturday from Hancock Fabrics, 5836 E. State St., Rockford.
Last year, the ride raised more than $1,000 for the Rockford Rescue Mission. The cycling team, called Team Fur Bandit for its trademark fake-fur-covered bikes, hopes to raise even more this year.
The ride costs $30 if you register in advance — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Coachman’s Body Shop, 1232 Shappert Drive, Machesney Park — or $40 on ride day.
Participants who want to add the removable fur to their bikes and become lifetime members of Team Fur Bandit need to register by Monday; that option costs $60.
