Fisherman dies near Chicago
CHICAGO (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says two boats collided on the Calumet-Sag Channel south of Chicago early Saturday and a fisherman has died after falling from his boat into the water.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Nathaniel Parks says a recreational boat carrying a man and a woman hit a fishing boat after turning to avoid a log. Two men were on board the fishing boat, and one fell into the water.
Parks says the man couldn’t swim and wasn’t wearing a life jacket. He says a diver found the man’s body near where the accident happened.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Richard Rosado says the collision happened about 12:30 a.m.
Parks says the Illinois Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
