Few changes in IHSA bass fishing
ROCKFORD REGISTER STAR
An Illinois High School Association advisory committee recommended few changes for the second annual statewide bass tournament.
The major change increases the number of students on each team from three to four, said IHSA administrator Dave Gannaway. Only two will be in the boat at one time, though.
Gannaway said a proposal to increase the number of boats per school from two to three was rejected.
He expects the number of schools participating this spring to grow from 199 to 300.
The committee’s recommendations go to the IHSA board this week.
The state tournament is May 7-8 at Carlyle Lake. Sectional sites are not yet finalized.
The driving force behind establishing bass fishing as an IHSA sport, Gannaway also announced this week he will retire at the end of the school year.
