CRP signup starts Monday
Prairie State Outdoors
The U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) will hold a Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) general sign-up from March 14 through April 15.
CRP is a voluntary program. Producers agree to take erosion-prone or environmentally sensitive land out of production and plant grass or trees.
The change in land use help prevent soil erosion, improve water quality by reducing runoff and provides wildlife habitat.
Landowners receive rental payments and cost-share assistance.
Contracts on accepted acres begin Oct. 1.
