What was the # of B&C qualifying bucks compared to previous years?

By the way, “THANK YOU” to everyone who stopped by my booth at the deer classic this weekend and encouraged me to keep posting on PSO despite the fact that I am sometimes attacked by nameless and faceless idiots! I truly appreciate the support!

Didnt get to see these nontypicals as I made the decision not to go back after last years cluster..  Glad its headed back to Peoria but lets see if there will be a price increase. I suspect there will because the claim has always been made by the promoter that the Civic center was too expensive.  Anyway, off to Iowa this weekend.  Its a great show and its lay out is awesome.  Lots of monsters and lots for the kiddos to do.  You can also stop and talk to people like Don without being trampled like your going through a cattle shoot.

First though, off to the All Elmwood show.  Maybe this could be the start of another deer classic in Illinois.  Best watch it Jeff.  Mr Walmsley had no idea it would be soooo big.

A total number of Booners won’t be available for awhile, since that involves also tallying bucks that are measured but not displayed. We will be posting photos and details on most of the Booners that were displayed by Tuesday morning at the latest.

Got there at 10a.m. Saturday with my 2 year old son. After about 15 minutes and the 3rd guy holding a beer knocked him down I decided I would have to carry him all the way through. Perhaps they could limit alcohol sales til afternoon? I am no prude but selling beer at ten A.M. at a family event just does not seem right to me. Maybe I should have thought about it a little more before deciding to take him, but I thought it would be a good time for us to spend together. I was wrong.

I had a couple Booners that I measured that never got turned into the show.  They were brought it for measure only and the trophy owner was standing there waiting for someone to measure it.  As soon as I was done and the paper work was filled out, they took the deer and left.  Management didn’t want the paperwork if the deer was already gone.

Was the Nate Stichter buck present?  Beautiful deer…I’ve been wondering what it would score.

Hey Jeff, Heath Kinder here.  Met you sunday at the classic.  Just wanted to let you know you got some bad info.  My deer took best in show for muzzleloader non-typical (209 4/8).  There was confusion because they misplaced my score sheet (of course)at some point when I registered the deer.  Thought you might want to correct the info on your page.  Great web site.  Would have called, but could not find a # anywhere.  Thanks- Heath Kinder

I wont even go there before 3 on saturday and im 31! its a mess and i couldnt imagine walking around that with a young child.  I dont see that being fun at all.  Ive been to about every show for the past 15 years and i go from 3pm to 7 saturday and all day sunday.  Friday is a good family night to avoid crouds ust not going to stay 3 days often.  HIGGINS! I didnt get to chat with you all weekend.  Everytime i went by your both was crazy wild with people.  I have two friends who need to chat with you about burr oak and persimmons.  Shoot me an email when ya get free ill fill ya in.

have to agree, it probably wasn;t the alcohol, its trying to shove too many people in a big shed,we made a u-turn a couple years ago before we even made it to the big buck wall,asked the manager how many people were in the building and how many were allowed per the fire code and for some reason she got real nervous and didn’t answer them.looking forward to peoria

32 Booners on display is equal to last year, and so is the 505 total deer brought in- almost exact- So I guess these big boys forgot they were suppose to be hiding in standing corn this season! A lot of bruisers for sure- But a 181” typical being the largest is not that big for Illinois-

May be a dumb question, but are the scores given at the Deer Classic the net or gross scores?

Bone collector- You are right that the alcohol probably did not have anything to do with it. I should have known better. It was just a really frustrating day. I had never been before and thought it would be fun.

Clint- Thanks for the advice on when to go. If I go again it won’t be on Saturday that’s for sure. I thought that if I got in and out before noon I would be okay, I wasn’t.

The show looks like it would be a blast to go to with a few buddies. But it is just not somewhere to take a youngin. Till mine is old enough to fend for himself he won’t be going back with me.

I’ve always taken my kids since they were that young.  You just have to know what to expect and be prepared to carry the little one all day.  I actually miss those days, but it’s pretty cool going with a teenage kid too.  I always thought the show had a little something to do with both my kids getting hooked on hunting.  Keep bringing the kids, just carry them.

I haven’t been in the last three years.  My father, brother and I always made a trip of it every year.  We would stay in Peoria a night with my uncle then make our way to the Classic on Saturday.  With the exception of the deer heads its the same every year.  I would have liked to go to talk to Don, Jodie, Lynn, Kevin, and a few others.  Sorry guys hope to meet with you soon.

I have been taking my son to the show for the last four years. We started at age five and he was 9 this year. We have always gone on Saturday. Even with the crowds, beer, etc, my son enjoys and looks forward to the show every year. He always asks to meet everyone that he possibly can. This year he met Nicole Jones/Pat Reeves, Byron Ferguson, the prarie state outdoors guys,Dan Perez, and many more.
With a little patience and understanding we were able to spend time with everyone we wanted to see.

I went to the Iowa deer classic this weekend and was blown away by the number of booners that were on display there.  I think that speaks volume for a state that knows how to properly manage a deer herd. You want a good time, take the trip over next year.  It truly is a class act….  The dude that runs Illinois deer classic should take notes on this show.  Lots for the kids to do, shed antler hunt, national shooting in the Schools program, etc, etc….

just a clarification needed here boone and crockett=gun kill, pope and young =bow kill right?and what are the minimum scores for each typical andnon typical?ilbohunter that iowa classic is a good time plenty a large deer to see and well run .

trolloni, B&C can be killed by anything legal, even pick-ups, as long as it meets the minimum requirements. P&Y are bow kill only. Minimums for all time high (not awards minimums) are B&C, 170” typical and 195” non-typical. P&Y are 125” typical and 155” non-typical. I hope that helps clear things up! FYI, yes, it is posibly to have a P&Y that is also a B&C.
