Archery turkey harvest increases

Maybe the reason more hunters aren’t shooting turkeys with shotguns in the fall is because they are taking the birds with bows.
Through Sunday Illinois bowhunters had shot 556 turkeys, up more than 22.9 percent from the four-year average.
Comparable figures for the last four years are 457 (2008), 476 (2007), 446 (2006), and 431 (2005). Top five counties are Pike (22), JoDaviess (20), Jefferson (19), Fulton (16) and Knox (15).
