ELGIN (AP) — Authorities in Elgin say a fisherman rescued two people after their canoe tipped over in the Fox River.
Elgin Fire Battalion Chief Terry Bruce says water rescue teams and divers from Elgin and South Elgin were rushing to the scene Sunday evening, but fisherman Kevin Ward got there first and pulled the couple into his boat.
The woman who fell into the river was reportedly pregnant and was taken to Sherman Hospital after her rescue, but Bruce said she appeared to be in good condition. Her male companion was checked out at the scene and then went to Sherman to be with her.
