450 trees to be given away to beautify Rock River

LOVES PARK — An assortment of 450 trees will be given away for free during the Great American Cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon April 28.
Young upland red and white oaks and swamp and bur oaks will be distributed with planting instructions to people who want to plant them in their neighborhoods. The trees are each worth $30 and will be made available by the Living Lands and Waters MillionTrees Project and the Rock River Trail Initiative.
The trees will be distributed at Rockton’s Village Green Park, 149 E. Chapel St.; the Roscoe Public Works Building, 5402 Swanson Road; the South Beloit Fire Station, 149 Gardner St.; New Milford Village Hall, 6771 11th St.; and the Rockford Park District Trolley Station, 324 N. Madison St. The organizations request that the trees be planted in view of the Rock River.
Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful is organizing local involvement in the national Great American Cleanup on April 28. Volunteers will report to designated city and county locations to collect supplies for litter pickup. Register to volunteer at 815-637-1343 or knib.org.
