Former Peorian Bill Hutchings had two great mornings of largemouth bass fishing, catching a fish weighing 10-pound, 3-ounces and 8-pound, 5 ounces on June 6 and 7. The next day he caught an 11-pound 2 ounce fish in Citrus County, Fla.

A rare golden eagle found in a central Illinois field with a broken wing has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Illinois Raptor Center. The 8-pound bird, now named Midas, was found north of Sadorus in Champaign County on Oct. 25. He has been at the center in Decatur since Dec. 6. STORY & COMMENTS
In an effort to turn a problem into an asset, the first annual Flying Fish Festival and Bowfishing Tournament has been added to the central Illinois summer calendar. The invasive Asian carp will be at the center of activities planned for July 11-12 with some of the top bowhunters in the country expected to shoot as many Asian carp as they can while competing for cash prizes. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency is seeking legal action against a large Iroquois County hog farm that allegedly caused a large fish kill after discharging manure into local waterways. Officials have said more than 60,000 fish were killed. STORY & COMMENTS
