David Phelps, 16, of Smithville caught this 38-inch, 17-pound northern pike July 7, 2010 on the Vermilion River near Orr, MN. He was fishing out of the Gold Mine Camp with Joe Stewart of Glasford. This was the biggest fish caught by anyone in camp that week.
Commercial fishermen who work for Schafer Fisheries are using smaller nets to catch Asian carp on the Illinois River. “The big fish just aren’t there anymore,” said Steve McNitt, a buyer for Schafer.
