Adam Geiger of Normal caught this 27-inch bass on Dec. 13, 2009 while fishing Falcon Reservoir near Zapata, Texas. They were fishing the Mexican side of the lake about 30 minutes before sunset when the fish hit. The bass had an 18-inch girth and weighed 10 pounds, 11 ounces.
After effectively losing several hunting days to bad weather, deer hunters fell just short of a record harvest during the 2007-08 season. Though numbers are preliminary, totals released by the Department of Natural Resources indicate Prairie State deer hunters bagged 198,544 whitetails: up slightly from last year but behind the 2005-06 record of 202,492.
