I started this thread in the hunting section. Must have been asleep.

Here’s a great way to cook up some fish. We call it Fish-On-A-Stick and have it several times a year and it’s also a big hit at our events. We find that people (kids & adults) who say they don’t like fish will down several of them.

Use small fillets of fish (your choice) and some chunks of onion. First put on a nice chunk of onion and then a couple fillets and then another nice chunk of onion on a wooden skewer. Do not soak the skewer in water or you will have hot oil splattering on you. Dip them in a batter of you choice and deep fry in 350 - 375 oil. They cook quickly and they are ready when they float and the batter is a golden brown. Enjoy with some red beans and rice. You can adjust the size of fish and onion according to the size of skewer. We usually use 6 to 8 inch skewers and make a 100 or more. They go quick.

Got a favorite way to cook up some fish?
Post it here.

I thought that you were just being sneaky…lol. Fish on a stick sounds good, will have to try it out.
Have you ever tried microwave bluegill fillets? Fillets, butter, diced green onions and season to your taste. cover and nuke to done, doesn’t take long.Drain off alittle of the extra liquids, flake apart fillets then add shredded cheese, melt then apply to your choice of cracker. Makes a nice snack, you can add diced pickles, peppers or whatever…

I have also came across a new breading, love it! found it at the deer-n-turkey classic,it’s called Totally Wild Seasonings. They have a website, under same name.Located out of Riverside,IA. Will bring some along the next time I’m down your way. Later..Troy

Here’s a couple of pictures of “Fish-On-A-Stick”. We had around 100 (July 19) and none was left when we went home.

fishinpals,
Those do really look good. All you need now is some Tennessee red dipping sauce to go with the fish and red beans-n-rice. I found some great sauce last year down by Mark Twain lake in Missouri. It was made by the Blues Hog barbeque guys. They have a web site…Blueshog.com,the barbeque sauce is awesome!!!It’s really good with grilled rabbit.

tw67——

Never heard of the sauce but might have to give it a try. Ordered some of the fish coating you gave me. Should get it later this week or early next week. Pretty good stuff and fries up great.

Just ordered a quart of the sauce. Seen on the site under news that the owner had a brain tumor and was operated on in June but is doing fine.

fishinpals,
Sorry for the late info…Gander mountain in Peoria is now carrying the Totally Wild products.I did picked up some of their Hunter’s Fish and Seafood Seasoning, another hit! It’s good on alot of different things including veggies.
Let me know and I could bring down some re-supplies the next time I come down. This fall for sure!

Did you order up any of the barbecue sauce from blueshog? or just the red sauce. I add the red to alot of things, rice, beans, potatoes and of course with fish. I bought several bottles of the barbeque last time I was down at Hannibal, down to my last two jars. It’s great on wild game and shines on a pork roast!

Oh that’s kind of pretty interesting. I never knew fish can be cooked in that way.
