Under the night sky

I didn’t have any luck capturing the Geminid meteor shower Dec. 13, but just looking up at a vast sky of stars made a pretty nice picture anyway.
That glow behind the hill belongs to Springfield.
Even on the far southwest edge of town, it’s hard to escape the lights of the city.
There were plenty of chances to catch meteors, but I didn’t have any luck getting them to show up in my 30-second exposures.
Thirty seconds is about the limit before the stars start to stretch or streak.
Astrophotography is next on my list of disciplines to learn.
It’s exciting to step into a new area of photography, to learn a new skill for the new year.
Here’s to trying new things in 2013.
