Hunting and gathering on a (very) small scale

I’ve seen white-breasted nuthatches head down a tree trunk headfirst any number of times.
But this is the first time I’ve seen Little Jack Horner pull out a plum.

This bird’s “plum” is a tasty insect pupa wedged deep in a crevice in the bark.
I’m most impressed with the way the nuthatch pushed its bill deep into the crevice to extract its prize.
Hats off to another successful hunter.
