Bobwhite holds tight
July 17, 2011 at 01:06 PM

A northern bobwhite sits tight near its nest. The nest was in a right-of-way between two farms in Sangamon County. This bird held tight and didn’t flush even when I got close enough to take a picture. The nest was constructed out of last-season’s grass formed into a dome. If ever there was an argument for not mowing until grassland birds like quail and pheasant have fledged, this is it.
