Tyson Ryan’s 12-pointer

November 23, 2009

Illinois hunting and fishing

Trophy Tidbits

Scorable Points: 12

Kill Date: Nov. 23, 2009

County: Marion

Season: Bow

EDITOR’S NOTE: Here in the words of Salem bowhunter Tyson Ryan is the story of his hunt for a 12-point Marion County buck.

I went out in the afternoon around 2:30 p.m.. My buddy who was hunting with me, text me around 3 p.m. to let me know that the buck was walking my way. The buck had passed my friend, but he could not get a shot on him.

The deer came right to me and presented a 5-yard shot. The deer ran about 30 yards after I shot him and he fell.  This is the biggest buck i have even seen and cant believe that I was able to harvest him.

I had a camera with me but had forgotten to press record until after I had shot the buck. I did get the deer running about five yards and dropping. I guess a little buck fever will make you forget about things.

I really got lucky on this day because I wasn’t planning on going hunting. If it was not for my friend wanting to go hunting I probably would have never had a chance to shoot this deer.

The deer has 12 or 13 scorable points and has a couple small kickers that are close but wouldn’t score. The deer scored 176 4/8 inches, unofficially.
