Troy Bogner’s Double

October 21, 2010

Illinois hunting and fishing

Trophy Tidbits

Scorable Points: 11

Kill Date: 10/16/2010

County: Marshall

Season: Bow

I went out to my stand an hour before daylight, heard one deer go by me, then at about 7:30 am, the doe came in & she was just out of bow range.

While watching the doe, the 11 point buck came in behind me rubbing trees.  He crossed past me at 20 yards, giving me a clean shot.  He continued on towards the doe & didn’t know he had even gotten shot.  He made it to her, started to sway & then expired.  This spooked the doe and she ran off about 70-80 yards. Then she gradually worked her way back towards me.  Thirty minutes later, she was in one of my shooting lanes and I arrowed her at 31 yards.  As I tried to get down from my stand, an 8-point buck walked in, so I waited another 30 minutes before he left the area.  He walked within five feet of my, stand and even though he was a basket rack, he was palmated like a moose. I watched him grunt at two yearlings, then eat acorns & then grunt again.

In the end, the doe walked all the way down to within 30 yards of my truck before she expired. The doe field dressed 110 pounds and the buck dressed out at 192 lbs. It was a really great day and my first double with a bow!!!
