Todd Laughhunn’s 18-pointer
Scorable Points: 18
Kill Date: Oct. 28, 2008
Mattoon bowhunter Todd Laughhunn’s planning paid off for both he and his son.
On Oct. 27 Laughhunn built a natural blind big enough so that he and his son could hunt together after the boy got out of school.
And it was a good thing he built a blind. During a father-son hunt on the evening of Oct. 28, the big buck walked right in on the Laughhunn’s from the wrong direction. The deer got so close that Laughhunn was hesitant to grab his bow. Finally once the buck got his head behind a tree, Laughhunn grabbed his bow and shot the buck, which was just 10 feet away.
The 18-pointer had three drop tines, one of which was almost 10 inches long.
Laughhunn took the buck to Stewart’s Archery in Charleston, where his picture was posted on the shop’s nifty Web site. After the picture was posted, another hunter saw the deer and told Laughhunn that he had pictures of the same buck from the summer. Below is one of those pictures.
