Taylor Warner’s 9-pointer

October 11, 2009

Illinois hunting and fishing

Trophy Tidbits

Scorable Points: 9

Kill Date: Oct. 11, 2009

County: Clay

Season: Youth firearm

Clay City youth hunter Taylor Warner was out with a friend, Ryan, in a buddy stand for about 45 minutes when this nice buck came up behind them.

“I heard a grunt. Then I turned around and saw this big, huge buck,” Warner said. “He looked right at me and I sat real still and whispered to Ryan and said, ‘There is a big deer.’ He didn’t believe me because I had teased him all day saying there were deer when they really weren’t.

“The deer just kept staring at me.”

Ryan stood up and finally saw the buck, which started to trot off. Ryan then called to the deer and he stopped and looked the other way.

Finally Taylor stood up, turned around the tree and dropped the deer.

“I was shaking so much I hit him in the neck,” Warner said. “I was so excited I was still shaking when I got out of the stand.”

Friends say Taylor’s smile was as wide as the rack when she brought the deer home. This was her second year of deer hunting. Last year she took her first deer with a muzzleloader during the regular gun season.
