EDITOR’S NOTE: Here in the words of firearm hunter Sean Breese is the story of his hunt for a 13-point buck.

I got set in my stand at about 5 a.m. There was no activity all morning, so I started rattling and grunting at about 8.

Around 8:30, 12 turkeys strolled by my stand led by a huge tom with at least a 10-inch beard. It was pretty exciting.

I started rattling as soon as they were out of sight. I spotted a doe inside the woodline coming out to the field soon after I stopped rattling. Then all of sudden here he came out of nowhere about 150 yards off right by the doe he was looking over his shoulder as if he had just been chased off by another buck.

But as soon as he saw that doe he chased her all over the place, slamming her in the rear and pushing her into a couple trees. Then the doe started my way at a dead sprint. The buck followed.

At first I was going to pass him up. I was after a different deer. But when he got closer he got 10 times bigger. I couldn’t resist.

I dropped him out of a dead run at 10 yards and he did a somersault right in front of my stand. The doe remained under my stand until I got down. I could also smell his glands while sitting in the tree.

The buck field dressed at 210 pounds and was measured at 162 inches.

It’s still the greatest hunt of my life.
