My Brother’s Keeper

December 02, 2010

Illinois hunting and fishing

Trophy Tidbits

Scorable Points: 8

Kill Date: 11-17-2009

County: Ogle

Season: Bow

My brother in-law asks me to check out his spot with him and another friend.  If you have hunted before, you know how this goes, but I go anyway.

We get to the spot and walk to where his tree is, he tells me to go up the ridge 100 yards and find a tree. His buddy goes the other way 100 yards and climbs up. I am 10 years older (45) than both of them, and by the time I get my climber up and get situated, I hear his friend shoot and see a bunch of deer running. A couple of minutes later, good old bro. texts me that he shot a six point. I grab my rattlers and do a series of rattles and put the antlers down.

Crunch crunch. I look to my left and see a bruiser behind me at 10 yards.  Somehow I am able to pick up my bow, knock an arrow and stand up. He is now less than 10 yards at three o’clock. I draw old faithful and drill him right in the vitals.  He runs downhill and falls over right in front of the other guy’s stand. He is a beautiful 8 point with a 19 1/2 inch inside spread and dresses out at 220lbs.

Needless to say, whenever he asks me to go with him, I am right there.  Thanks Brian!
