EDITOR’S NOTE: Here in the words of Fowler bowhunter Dan Moore is the story of his hunt for a 9-point buck.

The wind was gusting 20-25 mph. I was late getting into my stand. I jumped a big buck with a doe on the way in and then slipped past another small 8-point. I climbed in and then called the small buck back.

I let him walk.

I climbed down about 10 a.m. and started still hunting my way back out. I was almost to the truck when I spotted this buck coming from my right in front of me. I kneeled and knocked an arrow, thinking it was a doe. When I drew and stood up I noticed the antlers as he walked right through my row. I literally walked right up behind him and followed him to the edge of the field waiting for him to turn broadside.

As big bucks do, his sixth sense caused him to stop and turn to look at me and the expression on his face was “Oh crap” as I sent a rage through his cage at point-blank range.

He went right down and tumbled into the creek that lined the corn. I was so close to him that I could have slapped him on the butt as I followed behind him. But the wind was so strong that he was clueless. It was very surreal.
