EDITOR’S NOTE: Here in the words of bowhunter Chad Garcia of Fairview Heights is the story of his hunt for a 15-point Macoupin County buck.

The morning of Friday Nov, 6 was the best day of my hunting career thus far and I’m not sure I will ever be able to top it.

I decided to change stands to see some different scenery for a while. I ended up hunting one of our stands I have never hunted before.

Got in the stand and just had the feeling like I was in the wrong spot. I decided to stick it out and I sure am glad I did. Before long this bruiser came in right on my drag rag and gave me a 5-yard shot. Luckily from the time I first saw him to the time I shot was about 30 seconds. Not sure how well I would have handled it if I had to stare at him for much longer before I shot.

He dropped right there in his tracks. I couldn’t believe it! I immediately got pretty emotional. Then I had to wait over 30 minutes to climb down because I was shaking so badly.

I knew he was a good buck but did not realize how good until I put my hands on him.

Most people talk of ground shrinkage but in my case there was ground growage.  Definitely a day I will never forget.

A fantastic Buck, Congratulations! That picture never gets old, I think I could look a it for hours but that might be a bit weird. The cool thing about hunting is that you will never know if you can top that buck until a couple of seconds before you actually do. Again, congratulations, and I hope you left one out there for me.
