“Big Mac” is the name my son Wyatt gave to this buck just a few months ago. Colton (my other boy) and I always just called him the “Big 8”. We have been after him for a couple years now. After finding many sheds of his, we have determined him to be a 7 1/2 year old buck!

My son Colton was given a opportunity in October, but a tree branch deflected his arrow straight up in the air and the buck walked away unscathed. We had been watching him feed and travel across our corn and bean fields for a couple weeks. On Friday Dec. 2, three deer were taken on our farm. I didn’t think the farm would be any good with all the ruckus of recovering three deer, but I decided to go for it anyway, and on Dec. 3, sat in the stand where just hours before Colton shot a 150-class 13 pointer.

As first light came into view, there was not much moving. I was watching behind me and a deer appeared and I knew immediately it was Big Mac!

I watched him come into a natural funnel that would put him into bow range! At 25 yards he offered me a broadside shot. I already had my Thompson Center Omega ready and let him walk into my crosshairs. I didn’t look at his rack for more than a second and squeezed the trigger. He was hit good and ran under me soon to go down only 30 yards from my stand.

Big Mac was finally mine! I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to harvest this incredible deer. The history of finding his sheds & the generosity of two good friends, I now have all but two of his twelve sheds. His sheds from last year were put on mount displaying them proudly. He has yet to be officially scored.
