Nate Teske’s 8-pointer

November 22, 2008

Illinois hunting and fishing

Trophy Tidbits

Scorable Points: 8

Kill Date: Nov. 22, 2008

County: Shelby

Season: Shotgun

EDITOR’S NOTE: Here in the words of Naperville hunter Nate Teske is information on his 8-point buck.

This is a picture of a big shooter, shot by the “Big Shooter” on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4:15 p.m. I also shot a button buck on Friday afternoon. The freezer will soon be full. This is the largest buck (body size) I’ve ever harvested.

The official weigh was 211 pounds field dressed, which makes the deer probably 271 pounds live weight. The game warden at the check station said it was the 63rd deer checked in for Shelby County and absolutely the biggest animal body size.

This was the third deer harvested this year for me and I have been blessed with a great year of hunting.

According to Dale Bowman of the Chicago Sun-Times:

Teske was muskie fishing on Lake Shelbyville with some friends who were headed to St. Louis for the Bears game. Back in a cove, they saw the buck that one fisherman said looked like ‘‘the Hartford commercial.’’ After he dropped them off, he went back to look for the deer.

He found it. To cut through a bunch of good parts, the deer ended in the water of the cove, and he had to jury-rig a method to strap the deer to his boat. At 275 pounds, it was the biggest checked in in Shelby County.

Driving back on Interstate 55 on Sunday evening, he said five other hunters gave him thumbs up, and a young woman drove alongside and took cell-phone pictures.
