Robert Brewer’s 56-pound flathead

July 02, 2009

Illinois hunting and fishing

Big Fish Info

Species: Flathead catfish

Size: 56 pounds

Date: July 2, 2009

County: DeWitt

“I caught this flathead drifting with cut shad and gut. I used an Abu Garcia 6500 reel with 12-pound test Ande line. I was fishing alone and my dip net is too small so I put my arm into the fish’s mouth to get it into the boat. I then called my wife to meet me at West side boat ramp with a scale and camera because it’s the biggest fish I ever caught in my 48 years and I wanted to release it.

“My scale was too small, so I took the fish home and weighed it on my bathroom scale. After that I took the fish back to the lake and released it. Best night yet!”
