Coots get no respect

It’s true.
The American coot is an abundant, duck-like bird that is pretty much overlooked equally by hunters and bird-watchers
But look close and you often will find coots associate with ducks and other water birds.
They also need space to get a running start to takeoff.
Watching them “walk on water” is a sight to behold.
