Summer is on the way out.

So before we move headlong into fall, here is a last look back at a few favorites from the past few weeks.

The top photo was taken at Lake Taneycomo near Branson, Missouri on Monday evening. The mist was blanketing the surface of the water and the trees seemed to be growing right out of the clouds.

It never ceases to amaze me how herons and egrets seem to fit right into their surroundings.

This great egret was taking flight from The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve in Fulton County.

The cycle of life comes full circle as a mated pair of green darner dragonflies pause so the female can lay eggs in the water at the Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge near Havana.

Damselflies differ from dragonflies by holding their wings together over their abdomens while at rest.
